As part of the design of a 45 m Motor Yacht for Laky Verf, full scale Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) calculations were carried out.
The aim of these CFD calculations was to determine the bare hull resistance and the flow around the hull, at speeds of 13 and 16 knots. The calculations were carried out using the “free to trim and sink” option in the CFD code.
Based on the streamlines on the bare hull the appendages were aligned with the flow. In order to check the alignment of the appendages a CFD calculation, including all appendages, was performed at the design speed.
