At the request of De Voogt Naval Architects, full scale Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) calculations were carried out.
The aim of these CFD calculations was to determine the resistance of the hull fitted with all appendages and to determine the wake field at the propeller, at a speed of 16 knots. The calculations were carried out using the “free to trim and sink” option in the CFD code.
The geometry was complex including appendages such as bilge keels, two sets of stabilizer fins, bow thruster openings with scallop, the shaft line including a P – and an A – bracket and two rudders. The mesh consisted of 10.2 million cells.
