Van Oossanen & Associates b.v. are independent naval architects, hydrodynamicists and marine consultants, with particular expertise in the design of high-performance sail and motor yachts, ships and advanced marine vehicles, as well as in the hydrodynamics area of naval architecture. The founder of the company, Dr. Peter van Oossanen, has 35 years of experience in this field. His associates are naval architects with an all-round design background, particularly in the field of yacht design, hydrodynamics, CFD and structural design in steel, aluminium and advanced fibre-reinforced composites.
While many projects consist of independent design work, carried out for owners and builders directly, some of the projects is commissioned by other designers, requiring our particular expertise in the aero- and hydrodynamic performance areas.
Van Oossanen & Associates bv was founded in 1989. Since then we have designed motor and sailing yachts (both racing and cruising). Our involvement varies from a total responsibility for the complete design, including styling, structural design and engineering, and building supervision to only the design of the hull and/or the appendages.
In the area of racing sailing yachts we have been involved in most of the prominent racing classes such as the Whitbread 60's for the Whitbread Around the World Race (now the Volvo Ocean Race) and the America's Cup Class, as well as in the smaller classes, e.g. the International 8 Metre Class, the Dragon class and the traditional Dutch round and flat-bottomed boats (mainly the lemsteraak and the skutsje type classes).
In the area of motor yachts, we have been involved in the design of super yachts, with lengths in excess of 40 m, as well as small tenders and open day boats, and everything in-between. Again, we are either requested to be responsible for the total design or specific areas.
We are members of the Netherlands Society of Yacht Designers and Naval Architects, the N.B.J.A. (in Dutch: Nederlandse Bond van Jacht Architecten) and we adhere to the rules and conditions of the N.B.J.A., version 2005. These are available for download.
