The first succesfull application of the Hull Vane was already achieved back in 1989, on a catamaran. Since then we have focussed research on the application of the Hull Vane on sailing yacht hulls. Good results were achieved, both in an upright condition, as well as under heel and leeay, in tank tests on an IACC Model in 2000.
Allthough the exact purpose and application has changed in the current concept, the physical principles of the functioning of the Hull Vane is still similar to the early applications. Research is currently focussed on merchant ships and other powered vessels, where fuel costs, deadweight and emissions are the issues.
