A major research project was completed late 2002. This project was aimed at further advancing the state of the art in Lemsteraak design. Different companies and organizations involved in the building and sailing of this Dutch traditional sailing yacht have joined forces with us to make this research program possible. Various models were tested in the towing tank of the Delft University of Technology. Wind tunnel tests (at the University of Southampton) to determine the merits of different sail plans were also carried out. Some of the results of these wind tunnel tests were published in "Spiegel der Zeilvaart", number 9, 2001. The results of this research were used to develop a dedicated Velocity Prediction Program (VPP) for Lemsteraak-type vessels.

We have published an article in Spiegel der Zeilvaart on this project:

  • Onderzoek naar de Zeilprestaties van Lemsteraken (Spiegel der Zeilvaart, November 2001)
