At the request of Royal Huisman Shipyard Computational Fluid Dynamics calculations were carried out for the design of a pressure-increasing scoop at the inlet of the sea water chest. The pressure at the inlet was to meet specific values in order to comply with the engine manufacturer's specifications. The pressure was increased by way of a scoop. The resistance of the scoop needed to be low. Several scoop designs were analyzed resulting in a proper hydrodynamically-shaped scoop, increasing the pressure at the inlet, as required.
