Using tank test data, we developed dedicated side force and resistance models, and a yaw-moment model, to capture the specifics of these long-keel yachts. These models were than used in our in-house VPP, to analyze 11 candidate designs as to their sailing performance. The 5 most promising candidates were then selected and further analyzed with CFD.

This analysis, carried out for the optimum upwind sailing configuration, as well as a downwind condition, confirmed the ranking as obtained from the VPP analysis, and revealed greater insight into the physics of the flow around such hulls.
